I'm feeling suicidal

On this page you will find:

What should I do?

If you are experiencing thoughts of suicide, it is important that you tell someone. You could talk to someone you trust like a family member or a friend, or there are a range of other people you can talk to. More information about local and national services is also available on our find help page.

Tips for coping right now

Here are some tips that may help you right now. However, they are just examples. Please visit the trusted websites we direct to for more information:

  • Call the Samaritans, for free, 24/7, on 116 123
  • Don't make a decision or act on your thoughts
  • Get yourself to a safe place where people are around you
  • Distract yourself and do something you usually enjoy
  • Read your own or create a crisis/safety plan (you can visit Staying safe: What is a safety plan or The Ollie Foundation: helpful downloads for information and advice on creating a safety plan).
  • Get professional help
  • Talk to people you trust

We understand that talking to someone can feel scary, but sharing how you feel can really help.

The Samaritans campaign, called real people, real stories, shares the experiences of people that have had thoughts of suicide but have reached out to talk. Watch the clip of Martin's story below. You can reach out too.
